This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
