The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
