New Year Revelers Advised to Bundle Up with Wintry Weather Forecast Across the UK
Meteorologists are reporting an icy commencement to the new year, with snowfall expected throughout a lot of the UK. Revelers are being urged to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Festive Celebrations Continue Amid Alerts
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay festivities are set to go ahead, unlike last year's postponement. This is in spite of advisories for snow in northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve evening for those out celebrating, so additional clothing will be essential," stated the national forecaster.
Celebrations Under Mostly Clear but Cold Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is expected to be ideal for fireworks displays, with no rain and good visibility. The mercury are due to be cold, making extra layers a necessity, said forecasters.
In more northern areas, conditions will be more overcast, but this is not expected to hamper visibility for seeing fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," commented one forecaster.
Broad Snow Warnings for Friday
Moving into Friday, snow alerts have been issued for Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and most of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Expected to Drop Even More
With the start of 2026, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are expected to plummet as snow and gale-force winds are expected to affect the north of the country.
Around 10cm of snow is forecast to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks.
Public Health Advisories Released
At the same time, serious cold weather health warnings are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are due to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with readings forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency said this indicated the weather could to cause significant impacts across the NHS and care systems. This includes a potential rise in the number of deaths among vulnerable individuals or those aged 65 or over.
